It was once believed that there was a vein, which ran from your fourth finger, on your left hand, straight to the heart. This made for a very romantic story of how and why wedding and engagement rings, are put on the fourth finger on your left hand. It is now known that this is a total myth. There are, of course, veins in your hands, but they go to many places around the body and not one that links directly from the fourth finger, to the heart and although we now know that this is now known not to be true, westerners in particular, have kept to wearing the rings on this particular finger.
