This is a question that I received not too long ago, so I did some research. I obviously always knew what I believed, but I also wanted to see what other media sources told people. I’ve read, “3 months salary minimum on the ring”, “4% of your annual income” or even “the average amount to spend on an engagement ring in the UK is £5000, so this is how much you should spend this too”.
Firstly, how much you spend on your partners engagement ring is no one’s business.
There is absolutely no “rule” on how much you should spend on an engagement ring. The only thing to go by, is to choose something that, you believe, they will love. Im not trying to diminish how important this purchase is, of course its a big – huge, you’re probably never going to spend more on a ring in your lifetime, but you shouldn’t worry about where it’s going to leave you financially and it’s definitely not worth going in to debt for.
When all is said and done, if they’re the right person for you, if thought and consideration have gone into the buying process, they are going to love it, no matter what.
